- Bioanalyzer/TapeStation: Tues, Dec 19th at noon is the last time to submit for turnaround before break.
- Next-Gen Library Prep: Mon, Nov 13th at noon is the last time to submit for turnaround before break.
- Next-Gen Sequencing (MiSeq/NextSeq/NovaSeq): Tuesday, Dec 5th at noon is the last time to submit for turnaround before break.
- Oligos: The oligos are direct delivery to you from IDT. Please put your lab's address in when ordering. IDT will have holidays, please refer to their website.
- Reagents and Supplies: The stockroom will be open until 5pm Thurs Dec 21 and it will re-open on Tues, Jan 2nd at 9:00 AM. The Self-Service Supply Center will be open 24/7 to those who are signed up and have HMS IDs with 24/7 access to Goldenson 142.
- Sanger Sequencing: Thurs Dec 21st by 8:00 AM for Goldenson/C1 and 9:00 AM for NRB, is the last time to submit for turnaround before break.
Samples received after we close will remain in the drop-off freezer until Tues, Jan 2nd so we recommend keeping them in your lab instead.

Walk-in Consult Availability & Response Time
Our staff will be participating in evaluations of new website options throughout the summer. We are quite excited for this, as our core users will benefit greatly: A new website brings improved ordering experiences, instrument sign-up, sample management, and information displays to better your interactions with our core!
During this time we will have 2hr sessions at varying times, multiple times a week, when we will be unavailable. We therefore ask for patience on email response times, but also that you please email ahead of time to schedule consults, as walk-in consult availability will be limited.

The efficient utilization of sequencing output through optimal bait design and multiplexing approaches assists in detecting rare variants. Methods for rapid detection of sequence polymorphisms from a wide range of sources, from whole blood to archival samples, is in many cases essential to efficient use of sequencing for rare variant detection. This Lunch & Learn seminar will describe the process of Targeted Enrichment for next-generation sequencing, with an emphasis on exome capture, as well as two different custom capture approaches that can complement whole genome or whole exome sequencing.

BPF Website Down For Maintenance 8/13/2013 5:15 pm - 7 pm
We will be performing critical maintenance on our web server that may cause a brief outage during the maintenance window. We will be taking down our website and disabling the ftp server located at ftp://genome.med.harvard.edu at 5:15 pm to minimize the possibility of any issues affecting user data.
Many of you are wondering if the recent storage array and cluster failure has affected your information and data at the BPF.
Our facility uses separate server and disk resources for its web, data base, experiment data and invoice file storage. Only next generation sequencing data files are stored on the HMS mass storage array that recently failed. Therefore all your information and non next-gen files are intact and up to date.
We believe that only the two flowcells that were running on July 4th have been affected by the loss of the storage nodes as they were written after the last full replication. We are working with illumina to work around the missing files and generate data for these flowcells. Data that has been distributed to our FTP Server ( bpfngs.med.harvard.edu ) is unaffected.
We are continuing to run experiments on the Illumina HiSeq and MiSeq instruments utilizing alternative storage and computing services. Please do not hesitate to continue to place orders and submit samples as they will be processed in a timely fashion. We are currently able to generate demultiplexed fastq sequence files, however, our ability to do alignments or other data processing are limited at this time.
We are working with the local Genetics, HMS Research Information Technology Group (RITG), and Harvard Research Computing (RC) to return all offered services and prevent disruptions in the future.

The Biopolymers Facility is closing with the rest of Harvard for Winter Recess on Wednesday, December 22nd at 5:00pm and will resume normal business hours on January 3rd, 2011.
Please note the sample submission deadlines below for guaranteed completion before the recess:
- Bioanalyzer: December 21st, 10:00am
- Sanger Sequencing: December 21st, 9:00am
- Oligos: Deliveries will continue through December 22nd. Any oligos scheduled to be delivered after December 22nd will be delivered on January 3rd.
- For all other technologies, please consult with the staff scientist.
